GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa sophomore
Kyle Leahy pitched a complete five-hitter in a 4-1 win for the No. 15 Mavericks over Colorado Mines on Friday evening at Suplizio Field in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
The Erie native retired 22 of the final 23 batters he faced and needed just 112 pitches to do so. He surrendered a lone single in the sixth inning and allowed one run on five hits, walked none, while striking out 11 batters. He struck out the final four batters he faced in the game.
Mines scored their only run of the game in the first inning as the had three of their five hits of the game in the inning.
Colorado Mesa evened the score in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by
Garrett Ball that scored
PJ Gonzalez from third. Gonzalez reached on a double to right center to open the game up.
Gonzalez scored the Mavericks second run of the game on a wild pitch in the third inning.
Later in the third inning, Ball doubled down the left field line that bounced right over third base. That scored
Bligh Madris and
Kyle Serrano to give the Mavericks the 4-1 edge.
Ball finished with three runs driven in while Gonzalez finished with two of Colorado Mesa's five hits.
Colorado Mesa ran their win streak to 10 games and push their season record to 23-8 on the season and 15-2 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow at 3:30pm when they take on the Colorado Christian Cougars.
