DENVER, Colo. – Three pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout of Regis with a 6-0 win over the Rangers on Saturday to complete the four-game sweep in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Jake Mielock got the start on the mound and continued his string of strong outings. Mielock (2-1) allowed just two hits, walked six and struck out three in five and a third innings of work.
Jett Wodiuk and
Tyler Day combined to pitch the final three and two-thirds innings to complete the shutout. The duo combined to allow two hits, walked one and struck out one.
The Mavericks offense got going in the first inning after
Kyle Serrano drove home
Matt Haggerty to give CMU a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning,
Andrew Contreras delivered an RBI single to score Serrano.
PJ Gonzalez added to the lead on a RBI groundout in the fifth inning followed by another RBI single by Contreras in the sixth.
The Mavericks final two runs came off Regis errors.
Contreras finished the game 3-for-4 with the two runs driven in while three others finished with two hits in the game.
Colorado Mesa's win streak now sits at 17 games with their record moving to 30-8 on the season and 22-2 in the RMAC, seven games up on second-place Regis.
The Mavericks will continue their road swing next weekend with four-games at Adams State in Alamosa.
