GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - The Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team allowed just one goal in the second half to score an 11-7 win over Fort Lewis Wednesday (March 29).
The Mavericks held a slim 7-6 lead at halftime but outscored the Skyhawks 4-1 over the final 30 minutes.
Jessica Cook opened the game with back-to-back goals for CMU, but FLC responded with three straight.
The Mavericks closed the half scoring five of the final eight goals.
Jessica Cook paced the Mavericks with a game-high four goals.
Olivia Hayden finished with a hat trick for CMU, and four other Mavs notched a goal.
Colorado Mesa led in shots (23-17), ground balls (18-14) and draw controls (11-9).
The win is the fourth in a row for the Mavericks who improve to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Jillian Pfeifer earned the win for CMU making one save and giving up six goals in 29 minutes of action.
Kierstin Elder made five saves and allowed one goal in 31 minutes in goal for Mesa.
Colorado Mesa will host CSU-Pueblo Friday (March 31).
