Homestand Continues This Weekend

Colorado Mesa is in the midst of their second 12-game home stand of the season. They will take on New Mexico Highlands in a four game conference series with the Mavericks looking to earn the program's 100th all-time win over the Cowboys this weekend.

The Cowboys historically have an extremely potent offense and this season is no different. They own the conference's top spot in batting average with a .331 average and are scoring over seven runs per game. Easton Garcia leads NMHU in batting with a .375 average while Jeremy McCarty has belted a team-high seven home runs. 

On the pitching side, Highlands hasnt had the same success the offense has. They have a conference worst 7.79 ERA and are allowing nearly 12 hits a game. Dakota Pacheco has emerged as the staff ace with a 3-3 record and a 4.50 ERA while Avery Brandon is the top reliever with 11 appearances and a 1.46 ERA.

LAST WEEKEND
Colorado Mesa swept a four-game series from conference rival CSU-Pueblo at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks batted .333 in the series and scored over seven runs a game while the pitching staff limited the Pack to a .214 batting average and just over two runs per game. They also struck out over eight batters a game.

SCOUTING THE COWBOYS
The Cowboys currently sit in seventh place and sit just a game behind sixth place CSU-Pueblo in the RMAC standings. New Mexico Highlands split a four-game series with the conference's second place team Regis. They scored 58 runs in the four games and have bumped their season batting average to .331, a RMAC best. Their pitching staff enters the series with a 7.79 ERA, a conference worst.

RMAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Kyle Serrano was named the RMAC Player of the Week after his performance in the series with CSU-Pueblo. Serrano batted .429 with three home runs and eight runs scored. He finished with an OPS of 1.643 and swiped two bases while catching all four games on the weekend. The Grand Junction native is second on the team in batting with a .413 average and five home runs.

SWING THE HOT BAT
Redshirt sophomore Bligh Madris continues to lead the Maverick offense. In his last 10 games, Madris is batting .444 with four home runs and a 1.373 OPS while playing up to four positions in any series. He is hitting .465 on the season which is tops in the RMAC and ranks him 18th in Div. II. 

STAFF ACE
Sophomore Kyle Leahy has emerged as the pitching staff ace. Leahy leads the RMAC with a 1.25 ERA, which ranks 18th nationwide. He is currently 5-0 and limiting opponents to a .201 batting average.

GRAB THE LEAD
The Mavericks are 15-0 when leading after the sixth inning and 11-0 when leading after seven innings.

STRIKEOUT-TO-WALKS
Colorado Mesa ranks seventh nationally in strikeout to walk ratio at 3.56. The Mavericks have struck out 210 batters and walked just 59. 

NO FREEBIES
The Mavericks pitching staff has limited the free passes this season. They rank sixth nationally in walks per nine innings at 2.44 per nine. New Haven is the national leader at 1.69 walks per nine. 

NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mavericks moved back up to No. 21 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll after splitting with No. 20 Point Loma and sweeping CSU-Pueblo. CMU is up one spot to No. 13 in the Perfect Game poll and held at No. 9 in the D2Baseballnews.com poll.

ALUMNI UPDATE
2005 Colorado Mesa Maverick Sergio Romo signed a one-year, three million dollar deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Romo spent the first nine seasons of his big league career with the San Francisco Giants and was recently competed in the World Baseball Classic for Team Mexico, his second WBC appearance.

ON DECK
Colorado Mesa will close out their second 12-game home stand with the RMAC pod weekend where they will host Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines at Suplizio Field for six total games.
