Olivia Hayden combined to score seven of Colorado Mesa University's goals in a 10-8 win at Saint Leo Wednesday (March 22).
The two teams traded goals and were tied at 5-5 with 4:32 left in the first.
The Mavericks scored five straight goals across the end of the first half and the start of the second to take a 10-5 lead with 6:00 remaining.
The Lions would make a late run scoring three straight goals, but the Mavericks defense stood strong for the 10-8 win.
Colorado Mesa led in shots (23-22), ground balls (34-23) and draw controls (11-9).
Jillian Pfeifer made 10 saves and allowed eight goals for the Mavericks.
Colorado Mesa (5-2) will play at Tampa Friday (March 24).
