DENVER – The Colorado Mesa University softball team improved to 4-0 on the year after posting wins over Neb.-Kearney (8-0) and MSU Denver (9-4) Sunday (Feb. 5).
Andy Hancock threw a one-hitter and struck out seven for her first career win for CMU.
The Mavericks scored six runs on just two hits in the first inning. Alex Dufour led off the game with a triple, and after the next two batters were walked, she scored on a wild pitch. The Mavericks would capitalize on two more wild pitches, three walks and one error in the inning.
Abby Toller hit a leadoff homer in the third inning.

Brooke Hodgson and
Maggie Manwarren each went 4-4 for at the plate for CMU against MSUD.
The Roadrunners held the Mavericks scoreless for the first two innings before CMU scored a pair in the top of the third on two hits and one error.
Metro took the lead in the bottom of the inning scoring three runs on four hits, three of which were singles.
MSUD added another run in the fourth, but CMU responded with six runs in the top of the fifth.
Maggie Manwarren led off with a bunt single and scored on a triple to left field by Alex Dufour. Back-to-back walks led to another CMU run, and a double to center field by
Bailey Kleespies drove in two more runs. Manwarren drove in the final Maverick run with a single to third base.
Brooke Hodgson hit a solo homer in the sixth to conclude the scoring.
McKenzie Surface earned her second win of the season giving up nine hits across seven innings.
Colorado Mesa (4-0) will play in the Dixie State Tournament Feb. 9-11.
