GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team concluded the 2016-17 on a high note defeating CSU-Pueblo 96-85 Saturday (Feb. 25).
CMU had five players score in double figures led by
Eimer Lopez who finished with 22.
James Sylvester finished with 18 after shooting 12-of-16 from the line.
Kabir West shot 5-of-7 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line to finish with 15.
Connor Nichols poured in 15, and
CJ Davis had 10.
CMU led for 34:21 of the 40 minutes, including 42-38 at the half.
The Mavericks shot 53-percent (15-28) from the field in the first, and held the Pack to 41-percent (15-36).
CSUP shot 54-percent (17-31) in the second compared to 50-percent (14-28) by CMU, but the Mavericks made 22-of-28 free throws over the final 20 minutes.
CSUP was 5-of-10 from the line in the second half, and 11-of-21 for the game.
CMU shot 30-of-40 from the line for the game.
The Mavs out-scored the Pack 54-47 in the second half.
Rico Spikes tallied a double-double for CSUP with game-highs in both points (27) and rebounds (13).
Colorado Mesa finishes the season 8-20 overall and 7-15 in the league.
