Men's Basketball Hosts D2 Conference Challenge

Colorado Mesa University's men's basketball team is hosting the D2 Conference Challenge this weekend at Brownson Arena. The Mavericks will be hosting three teams for the challenge, including RMAC opponent Colorado Christian University and Heartland Conference opponents St. Edwards University and Dallas Baptist University. CMU will be taking on only the heartland opponents in their two games on Friday and Saturday.

When CMU traveled to Dallas last season to take on DBU and SEU, the Mavericks came away winless. DBU took down the Mavericks 99-78 in the first game of the challenge. In the game CMU finished with three players having 19 points, but DBU had five players finish in double digits. They were led by Myles Johnson who finished with 23.

The second game was much closer between CMU and SEU, but the Hilltoppers walked away with the 71-66 victory. CJ Davis led all scorers in the game with 23 points behind 6-11 shooting from behind the arc. Second chance points were a killer for the Mavericks in the game. SEU finished with 16 second chance points compared to the Mavericks two.

CCU will be taking on DBU first on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by CMU and SEU at 7 p.m. On Saturday the teams rotate opponents with CCU going against SEU at 5 p.m. and CMU taking on DBU at 7 p.m.
