After losing a man in the 27th minute, the Mavericks were looking to keep the game from getting out of hand early. With the help of the Mavericks' defense the game was sent into overtime between Colorado Mesa University and Fort Lewis College. Then, in the 93rd minute
Malik Mennana came to the rescue.
Moshe Perez sent a cross to the middle of the box on a break and Mennana was able to fake out the keeper and head it to the left side of the goal to send the Mavericks to the RMAC Championship for the third season in a row.
Colton Ladyga received a yellow card in the 15th minute, before receiving his second of the night 12 minutes later. However, despite playing a majority of the game down a man, the Mavericks finished the game with six more total shots than the Skyhawks (15-9). While the only two of thsoe shots came on goal, CMU was able to get the only one that mattered to go into the net.
Perez finished with a game high seven shots on the day for the Mavericks.
Briley Guarneri was in net for CMU and the keeper finished with his record tying 11th shutout for the third season in a row. He is now one shutout away from breaking the school record for most shutouts in a season, which Guarneri holds at 11 from his previous two seasons.
The win sets up a championship game between the numbers one and two seeds in the RMACÂ in Colorado School of Mines and CMU on Sunday. CSM defeated MSU Denver 3-1 in the early game on Friday to advance to the championship round. CSM is one of the Mavericks only two losses on the season back in September.
