Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Bryce Reedy (Sports Information Intern)

Cougars take down Mavericks

Following a big win against Metro State University on Sunday, the women's soccer team was hoping to keep that momentum going into Friday's matchup against Colorado Christian University. However, the Cougars had their eyes set on an upset on the road. And the Cougars did just that with a 1-0 victory over the Mavericks.

The dagger goal came in the 12th minute from Maddison Hogan. The ball was hit out to near midfield, and Hogan took the ball and fired it in from 50 yards out. Emily Signorio got her hands on the ball but it rolled off her fingers and into the back of the net.

Offensively the Mavericks could not find any rythm during the game. Despite outshooting the Cougars 16-11 and 8-5 in shots on goal, it was the Cougars who were in control for the majority of the game. CMU had a few chances in the final minutes but were unable to capitalize and tie the game.

Signorio finished with four saves for the Mavericks and the one goal allowed. Ireland VanDyke finished with eight saves for the Cougars on the day.

With the loss the Mavericks move to 6-5-0 on the season and 3-3-0 in the RMAC. Their next matchup will feature the No. 8 ranked Colorado School of Mines on Sunday. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. at Walker Field.
