Colorado Mesa University played their second to last regular season game of the year against Colorado Christian on Thursday. The Mavericks took care of business for the second time this season against the Cougars, winning the game 5-0.
Moshe Perez got the scoring going early in the seventh minute with his 10th goal of the season. Perez received a pass from Matt Miller and Perez was able to shoot the shot to the top of the net to give the Mavericks the early 1-0 lead. Three minutes later Miller assisted his second goal of the day after he sent the ball down the middle of the field to
Kevin Del Mazo and he was able to strike the ball in for his seventh goal on the year. Perez finished the second half scoring his second goal of the day on a penalty kick to give the Mavericks the 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half
Malik Mennana scored in the middle of the box off a pass from
Peter Vandam to extend the Mavericks large lead to 4-0. The icing on the cake came in the 80th minute when Cody Calagno scored his first goal of the season to give CMU the 5-0 victory.
CMU out shot the Cougars 12-8 on the day, but both teams were able to put up six shots on goal.
Briley Guarneri got his 14th win of the season his ninth clean sheet of the year. Guarneri finished with six saves on the day as well.
CMU closes out the regular season with a game against Metro State University down in Denver on Saturday. Kick off is set for 1:30 p.m.
