Colorado Mesa University's offense continued to roll on Friday against Colorado Christian University. The Mavericks put up 21 shots on the day in rout to a 2-0 victory over the Cougars.
CMU got the scoring going in the 18th minute thanks to an own goal by CCU.
Roberto Diaz crossed a ball across the box and in an attempt to save the ball from the oncoming Matt Miller, the Cougar defender knocked the ball in past the goalie to give the Mavericks the 1-0 lead. The Mavericks would score again in the 26th minute courtesy of
Moshe Perez scoring his 9th of the season. Perez was able to shake away his defender and fire in a shot from 30 yards out. CMU took the 2-0 lead into the half.
The second half held a lot of opportunities for another Maverick goal, but none were able to go in past the Cougar keeper.
CMU out shot CCU 21-5 in the game and 9-3 in shots on goal. Perez led the game with nine shots while
Malik Mennana came in second with four.
Briley Guarneri was in goal for the Mavericks. He faced three shots and saved them all to bring his save count up to 39 for the year. The win also gave him his 12th of the season as well as his seventh clean sheet of the year.
With the win CMU moves to 12-2-1 on the year and 8-2-1 in the RMAC. Next up for the Mavericks is Metro State University on Sunday. MSU currently sits in third place in the RMAC, one spot behind the Mavericks. Kick off is set for 2:30 p.m. at Walker Field.
