GOLDEN, Colo.— The nation's 22
nd-ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers recorded 14 blocks and hit at a .395 clip as they claimed their 10th straight win Saturday night over the visiting Colorado Mesa University Mavericks in Saturday evening Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball action here in Lockridge Arena.
Â
Set scores were 25-19, 25-11 and 25-13.
Â
The Orediggers improved to 16-3 overall and remain unbeaten in 10 conference matches while the Mavericks fell to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in the RMAC as they wrapped up a 2-weekend, 4-match road stretch.
Â
Maddie Behr recorded a match-high 13 kills and hit an impressive .521 with just one error on 21 swings. She was also involved in eight of the victors' blocks. Lindsey Jin also tallied 10 kills while hitting .444 and added three service aces and two blocks.
Â
CMU outside hitters
MacKenzie Edwards and
Katie Scherr finished with seven kills and four digs each. Junior libero
Taylor Woods had a match-high 12 digs and has now been in double-figures in 30 straight matches dating back to 2016.
Â
Although the Mavericks never lead any of the three sets, the first was nip-and-tuck and was tied at 16 before a 6-1 run that included two Oredigger aces and a pair of net violations on the Mavericks handed the hosts momentum and eventually the frame.
Â
The second set was tied at 3 early on before kills by Behr and Jin followed by an Abby Tiesman block allowed the Orediggers to seize control once again. The Mavericks would hang in within four (14-10) before a 9-0 Mines run helped put that second set away.
Â
The Orediggers then had a pair of 6-0 runs and another of 5-0 in the third as they claimed the win.
Â
CMU will now return home for three of their next four hosting Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines next Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both matches in Brownson Arena will start at 7 p.m.
