The Mavericks picked up right where they left off on Wednesday, putting up four goals against South Dakota Mines to bring their total up to 10 goals on the week. CMU would win the game by a final score of 4-1.
CMU came out firing early against the Hardrockers, putting up 10 shots in the first half. However, the Mavericks were unable to convert any of those opportunities into scores.
The second half was a different story entirely. Two minutes into the second half, Niall Saffery scored his second goal of the week. He received a pass in the center of the box from
Malik Mennana and Saffery was able to finish it to take the 1-0 lead. CMU's next score would come in the 66th minute at the foot of
Benji Delgadillo. It would be the second goal scored in the center of the box on the afternoon. Six minutes later the Mavericks would score again to make it 3-0.
Connor Lowdermilk scored his first goal of his career off a cross from Mennana to the left side of the goal. SDM would score in the 80th minute to cut the lead to 3-1, but a
Moshe Perez penalty kick in the 84th minute sealed the win for the Mavericks.
Briley Guarneri got his 11th win of the season, allowing just the one goal and recording four saves on the day.Â
The win moves the Mavericks to 11-2-1 on the season and 7-2-1 in the RMAC. Next up for CMU is a game at home against Colorado Christian University next Friday. Kick off is set for 4 p.m. at Walker Field.
