October 11 vs. Westminster College:
Time to rebound:
The Mavericks are coming off a rough loss on the road against UCCS on Sunday. It was only the team's second loss of the season. The game following their last loss came against the No. 18 ranked Regis University. CMU rebounded in a huge way to win that game 3-0.
Welcome back Coach Pittman:
Josh Pittman returns to Walker Field to face off against his old university. Pittman was CMU's men's soccer coach for seven seasons prior to
Todd Padgett's tenure. During his time with the Mavericks, he took CMU to a 2013 RMAC tournament championship as well as took the team to the league tournament in three seasons.
Shots for and against:
So far, this season, the Mavericks offense has been making the opposing goalie work while CMU's defense has allowed
Briley Guarneri to have few shots to face on a nightly basis. CMU is averaging 16.5 shots per game while they are only allowing their opponents to get off 7.9 shots per game.
Close call:
The last time these two teams met was over in Utah, and it was
Moshe Perez who came out as the hero. Perez was able to net the overtime winner for the Mavericks to give them the 2-1 victory over the Griffins. So far, this season the Mavericks are 2-0-1 when it comes to overtime contests.
Players to Watch:
Look for
Moshe Perez to respond in a big way on Wednesday following the loss to UCCS. Perez was the hero and game one and should play a huge role in the contest against the Griffins. Amit Hefer is one to watch for Westminster. He leads his team with four assists on the year and is second in points with eight.
October 13 vs. South Dakota School of Mines:
22 goals scored:
The Mavericks currently sit in third place in the RMAC when it comes to total goals scored this season. CMU has 22 through 12 games while the Hardrockers only have 14.
Perez is the shot king:
Perez currently leads the RMAC in both total shots attempted and shots per game. He has taken 65 shots this season, 32 of which have been on goal. That is an average of 5.416 shots per game.
Rough Patch:
The Hardrockers are currently going through a rough eight game stretch of the season. The team is 1-7 over the eight games and have been outscored 16-6.
Mavericks ran away in first meeting:
CMU used second half scoring to run away with the game in the teams' first matchup of the year.
Matthew Miller and Perez scored the two goals in the second half to give the Mavericks the 3-1 victory over the Hardrockes.
Players to Watch:
Kevin Del Mazo didn't get in the score book in either matchup over the weekend. Look for that to change this week in the team's two conference matchups. As for the Hardrockers watch for Noah McKenzie to try and make an impact. He leads the team with three assists on the year.
