Colorado Mesa University was coming off a heartbreaking loss against Regis University on Friday night. But the team got exactly what they needed on Sunday, a huge 2-0 win against the number two team in the conference MSU Denver.
The Mavericks were able to score early in the 10th minute.
Zoe Peterson was able to fire a ball past the goalkeeper after
Alexis Allard lifted the pass over two defenders. CMU went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Then in the second half, it was
Heidi Wendt who gave the Mavericks a larger cushion in the 72nd minute. She received a pass from beyond midfield from
Mackenzie King and Wendt was able to sneak it past the goalkeeper for the second goal of the game.
CMU finished with 12 shots on the day, with six of those shots coming on goal. The roadrunners were not far behind in the shot department, finishing with 10 shots total and five on goal.
Emily Signorio was in net for the Mavericks as she finished with her third clean sheet of the season. Signorio came away with five saves on the day for her third win.
With the victory the Mavericks move to 6-4-0 on the season and 3-2-0 in the conference. CMU will play host for their next two conference matchups, starting with Colorado Christian University on Friday before a big test against the No. 14 Colorado School of Mines on Sunday.
