GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The comeback fell just short for the Colorado Mesa women's basketball team on Saturday night in a 76-71 loss to the visiting Regis Rangers in Brownson Arena in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest.
The Mavericks trailed by 25 points entering the fourth quarter but cut the Ranger lead to as little as four with just seconds left in the matchup.
In the fourth quarter, Colorado Mesa scored 36 points which was more than they had scored in the first three quarters of action. They shot over 55 percent from the field and had three players score in double digits in the quarter alone.
The Mavericks cut the 15 point Regis halftime lead to eight with 6:58 to go in the third but three straight three-pointers by the Rangers moved the lead back to 17 at the 4:42 mark of the third.
After not recording a first half point, the RMAC's leading scorer
Bryanna Adams finished with 18 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for the team's first double-double of the season. She had 14 in the fourth quarter.
Regis dominated the glass, owning a 42-29 margin in the game. They pulled down 17 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second chance points and longer offensive possessions.
Junior
Erin Reichle had her best night of the season with a season and game-high 22 points including four three-point baskets.
The Mavericks fall to 9-4 on the season and 6-3 in the conference while Regis improves to 12-2 on the year and 7-2 in the RMAC.
Colorado Mesa will be on the road next week at Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian.
