Defense Leads Women's Basketball to Win in Golden

GOLDEN, COLO. – Bryanna Adams scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team to a 72-66 RMAC road win at Colorado Mines Friday (Jan. 13).

Adams shot 6-of-15 from the field, 4-of-7 from behind the arc, and drained all 12 free throws. She also grabbed seven rebounds.

Erin Reichle and Jaylyn Duran each finished with 12 points for the Mavs. Duran was prefect from behind the arc making all four of her attempts.

3-piont shooting was a bright spot for Mesa who shot 11-of-26 (42-percent) from deep compared to Mines who made just two of 16 attempts (12-percent).

The game was a narrow affair with 10 ties and 15 lead changes.

Mines opened the game shooting 37-percent (6-16) in the first to lead 12-10 at the end of the first.

The Orediggers shooting improved to 40-percent (6-15) in the second, but the Mavs shot 46-percent (7-15). CMU out-scored CSM 23-17 in the second quarter and led 33-29 at the half.

Mines started the second half on an offensive explosion shooting a remarkable 58-percent (10-17) from the field to lead 55-49 at the end of the third.

Mesa's defense stepped up in the fourth holding Mines to 17-percent (3-17) from the field. The Mavs shot 42-percent (3-7) and made 23-of-26 from the line. Mesa out-scored Mines 23-11 over the final 10 minutes.

CMU shot 88-percent (23-26) from the line compared to 82-percent (14-17) by CSM.

Mines had four players in double figures led by Mikaela Moore and Emily Bailey who each scored 13 points.

The Orediggers finished with a 28-8 edge in points in the paint.

Colorado Mesa (10-4, 7-3) will play at Colorado Christian Saturday (Jan. 14).
