Mavericks Ground Eagles

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa started the New Year off on the right foot with a 82-56 win over the visiting Chadron State Eagles on Friday evening in Brownson Arena in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup.

The Mavericks opened the game on an 11-2 run in the first quarter and stretched their lead to as many as 27 with 8:01 to play in the game.

After leading by just nine at halftime 39-30, they came out and shot 57.9 percent from the field in the third quarter to take a 68-45 lead into the fourth quarter.

Bryanna Adams had 14 of her game-high 20 points in the 29 point third quarter for CMU. Adams went 8-of-13 from the three-point line and added eight rebounds.

Colorado Mesa came up big on the glass and outrebounded the Eagles 49-30, including 20 offensive boards, in the game. They scored 23 points off offensive put-backs and limited the Eagles to several one shot and out offensive possessions.

Khadijah Vigil had a game-high and a season-high with nine rebounds with four coming on the offensive end.

The Mavericks outshot Chadron State from beyond the three-point line 13-2, thanks in large part to the five made threes by Jaylyn Duran. Duran finished with a season-high 15 points and tied her career-high going 5-for-9 from beyond the arc.

The Mavericks improved to 9-3 on the season and 6-2 in the RMAC while Chadron State fell to 3-9 and 3-6 in conference play.

Colorado Mesa will take on Regis tomorrow night at 5:30pm in Brownson Arena.
