GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Western State with a 61-49 win Tuesday (Jan. 31).
Bryanna Adams led all scorers with 19 points for CMU and grabbed eight rebounds.
Erin Reichle finished with 16 points, and
Ma'ata Epenisa chipped in 10 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
Brianna Wilber led the Mountaineers with 12 points.
The Mavericks defense was the talk of the first half as it held the Mountaineers to 20 points and just 20-percent (2-10) from the field in the first quarter.
CMU led by a game-high 19 points with 1:50 remaining before entering the half with a 37-20 lead.
The Mavs struggled at the start of the second half shooting just 30-percent (3-10) from the field as it was out-scored 13-9.
Mesa's offense improved in the fourth to 40-percent (6-15), but Western shot a game-high 54-percent (6-11) over the final ten minutes.
CMU led 38-28 in rebounds, including 15-6 on the offensive end, which led to a 21-9 edge in second chance points.
The Mavs also led 25-9 in points off turnovers.
The Mountaineers hung around thanks to 15-23 shooting from the line, compared to 5-7 by the Mavs.
Mesa controlled the paint scoring 28 of its 61 points in the lane.
Colorado Mesa (15-5, 12-4) will host Westminster Saturday (Feb. 4).
