GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. –
Erin Reichle scored a season- and game-high 30 points and dished out nine assists to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team to an 80-63 win over UCCS Saturday (Jan. 21).
Reichle shot 8-of-16 from the field and 12-of-14 from the line.
The Mavericks strung together a 9-0 run early in the game. UCCS closed the first quarter with back-to-back baskets to trail by three, 19-16.
Mesa's offense sputtered in the second quarter making just two field goals and shooting 15-percent (2-13). The Mountain Lions capitalized shooting 53-percent and out-scoring the Mavericks 16-8 to lead 37-32 at the half.
CMU corrected its offense over halftime shooting a game-high 61-percent (11-18) in the third. UCCS kept pace shooting 57-percent (8-14) but CMU out-scored UCCS 27-18 in the quarter thanks to five 3-pointers.
Mesa's lead grew over the final ten minutes thanks to staunch defense. The Mavericks held the Mountain Lions to 20-percent (3-15) from the field and out-scored the Mountain Lions 26-13.
Bryanna Adams scored 23 points, and
Ma'ata Epenisa made all seven field goals attempts to finish with 16 points for Mesa.
Brittany Hernandez led UCCS with 25 points.
CMU led 10-6 in 3-pointers and 16-6 in free throws.
Mesa led 39-25 in rebounds and 13-4 on the offensive glass. CMU scored 24 second-chance points to just four by UCCS.
The Mavericks recorded 20 assists on 27 made baskets. The Mountain Lions finished with 11 assists.
Colorado Mesa (13-4, 10-3) will play at Black Hills State Friday (Jan. 27).
