GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa led nearly wire-to-wire in a 77-65 win over the visiting Metro State Roadrunners on Friday evening in Brownson Arena in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup.
The Mavericks avenged their loss to MSU Denver that came back on December 30 at the Auraria Events Center.
Colorado Mesa opened the night on an 11-2 run that included a pair of three-pointer from
Jaylyn Duran and
Bryanna Adams.
The Mavericks led by as many as 20 points with 4:41 remaining in the second quarter and led for over 39 minutes in the 40-minute game.
MSU Denver fought back in the second half and cut the Maverick lead to six with 7:50 to play in the contest after a layin by Jaelynn Smith.
Three minutes later the Mavericks had the lead back to 14 at 72-58 and kept the lead in double-digits for the remainder of the night.
The RMAC's leading scorer Adams finished the night with 27 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field. She made five three-pointers and pulled down four rebounds.
Senior
Sydney Small finished in double-figures with 15 points, while
Erin Reichle added 13 points and handed out four assists.
Roadrunner Georgia Ohrdorf finished with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Colorado Mesa improved to 12-4 on the season and 9-3 in the RMAC while MSU Denver dropped to 10-9 on the season and 6-6 in the conference.
The Mavericks will host UCCS tomorrow night at 5:30pm in Brownson Arena. It will be a showdown of top teams in the RMAC as the Mountain Lions sit in second place heading into the night.
