Box Score 2 GOLDEN, Colo. – After a tough opening day of the 2016 season, the Colorado Mesa volleyball team rebounded with a pair of wins at the Colorado Mines Oredigger Classic. The Mavericks closed out the weekend with a 2-2 record.
In their morning match, the Mavericks took down NCAA South Central region foe Dallas Baptist in straight sets (25-16, 27-25, 25-23).
Zie Edwards led the Maverick attack at the net with a game-high 15 kills and 18 points. She also added seven digs and assisted on a pair of blocks.
Gabriela Dias finished with 12 kills and hit a team-high .421 in the match.
Freshman
Samantha Ritter was given her first career start and didn't disappoint. Ritter finished with 40 assists, five digs and two service aces.
In the final match of the tournament, Colorado Mesa defeated Indianapolis in four sets, 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16).
Edwards led the Maverick attack again with 13 kills and completed the double-double with 16 digs. She led the Mavericks in kills in three of the four matches and had 55 kills in the tournament.
Sophomore
Taylor Woods had 25 digs in the final match of the tournament and extended her double-digit dig streak to 29 matches. Woods finished the tournament with 76 digs at 5.07 per set.
Colorado Mesa will head to Stephenville, Texas next weekend for the Tarleton State Tournament.
