GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team had three different players score in a 4-2 win over South Dakota Mines Sunday (Sept. 25).
The Mavericks dominated play in the match out-shooting the Hardrockers 22-8 and finishing with a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
Roy Abergil scored a pair of quick goals to give the Mavs an early lead. Abergil's first goal came off a low cross from
Nick Pena. Abergil followed up with his 10
th goal of the season two minutes later when he headed in a cross from
Kevin Del Mazo.
CMU scored a third goal in the 38
th minute when
Moshe Perez flicked a pass to
Malik Mennana who beat the keeper far post.
Moshe Perez earned his second assist of the game when he connected with
Slater Elkind on a free kick goal in the 58
th minute.
Both of SDSMT's goals came off of penalty kicks late.
David Pineda scored in the 78
th minute, and Andreas Skau scored the second goal for the Hardrockers in the 86
th minute.
Briley Guarneri made four saves in goal for CMU.
Colorado Mesa (4-1-3, 3-0-1) will play at Fort Lewis Sept. 30
