GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa women's soccer opened conference play with a 1-0 loss against the Westminster Griffins Sunday (Sept. 18) at Walker Field.
The Mavericks best scoring opportunity came in the 28
th minute. Sophomore 
Mackenzie King ripped a shot on goal off a free kick down the middle that was turned away by Griffins goalkeeper Breanna Empey. The rebound fell to freshman 
Madison Rasimas whose shot sailed over the top of the crossbar.
The Griffins goal came in the 50
th minute when Tiana Cerciello beat a CMU defender before toe poking a shot past the Maverick goalkeeper.
Westminster outshot Mesa 11-8, but the Mavericks led 5-4 on shots on goal.
CMU (2-3-1, 0-1-0) will be back at Walker Field Friday (Sept. 23) at 7 pm against UCCS.
