Volleyball Opens Up RMAC Play This Week

LAST WEEKEND
Colorado Mesa swept through the Tarleton State TexAnn Volleyball Invitational last weekend improving their record to 6-2. The Mavericks opened the tournament by defeating Lubbock Christian 3-1 then went on to defeat the host school Tarleton State 3-0 in front of over 750 fans in Wisdom Gym. In the final day, CMU defeated Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Commerce by matching 3-1 scores.

Sophomore Mackenzie Edwards and senior Ali Svorinic were named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Mavericks to the 4-0 record. Edwards averaged 4.60 kills per set (69 total kills) while Svorinic averaged 11.67 assists per set (175 total assists).

UPCOMING MATCHES
The Mavericks open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this week. First, on Thursday they travel to Gunnison to take on conference rival Western State. CMU is riding a six match win streak against the Mountaineers dating back to 2013.

On Saturday, the Mavericks will return home for their home opener against Westminster. CMU is 3-1 in their last four matches with the Griffins with their lone loss coming last season in Salt Lake City. 

WINNING STREAK
Colorado Mesa is currently riding a six match win streak after sweeping the Tarleton State Tournament this past weekend. The streak is the longest since 2014 when they won 20 matches in a row.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Mackenzie Edwards was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week for her play at the TexAnn Volleyball Invitational. Edwards finished with 69 total kills and average 4.60 kills per set in the Mavericks 4-0 record. On the season, Edwards has 124 kills and a 4.13 kills per set ratio.

EARLY LEAD
When the Mavericks win the first set of the match, they are 6-0 this season. CMU's only losses this season came when they dropped the first set of the match.

NATIONAL POLL
Colorado Mesa was receiving votes in the latest AVCA National Poll. The Mavericks lone two losses have come at the hands of the current No. 2 and No. 5 ranked teams.
