Volleyball Opens at Oredigger Classic

Season Outlook
The Mavericks enter the season looking to make their third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. They come into the season with just five juniors and seniors and 14 sophomores and freshman. With that said, they are still picked to finish second in the RMAC just behind Colorado Mines.

Opening Weekend
Colorado Mesa will open up the 2016 campaign at the Oredigger Classic in Golden where they will play a pair of ranked opponents in Wayne State and Nebraska-Kearney on day one. The Mavericks will close out the tournament with a South Central Region match with Dallas Baptist and a first-time matchup with Indianapolis.

Top Returners
The Mavericks return the AVCA South Central Freshman of the Year and RMAC Freshman of the Year in Taylor Woods. The Glendale, Ariz. native ended last season on a 25-match streak where she recorded 10 or more digs.

Also returning is preseason All-RMAC performer Hattie Gianinetti. Gianinetti led the team with 57 total blocks and finished third on the team with 288 in 2015.

New Hitters
Colorado Mesa graduated class from a year ago totaled 1,178 kills which accounted for over 73 percent of the teams total kills. The Mavericks have three returning outsides but will look to a group of freshman to step up and take those swings.
