Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado Mesa still needs just one win to clinch the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season championship after falling 5-2 to the Colorado Mines Orediggers on Friday evening at Darden Field.
After playing the first inning, the Mavericks and Orediggers were stuck in a lightning delay that lasted nearly 35 minutes.
The Orediggers took the early lead in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs on a pair of RBI singles by Colorado Mines.
Colorado Mesa knotted the game up in the top half of the sixth inning with a RBI groundout by
James Young III and a RBI single by
Zach McLeod.
That would be all the Mavericks would get while the Orediggers would score thee in the bottom half of the seventh.
Andrew Contreras finished the night with two hits including his fourth double of the season.
Kyle Serrano was the only other Maverick with multiple hits in the game.
Jarrett Bott started on the mound for the Mavericks but lasted just two innings.
Freshman
John Beaudrie entered from the bullpen and may have had his finest outing as a Maverick. Beaudrie went four innings and allowed just three hits a while striking out one. More importantly, he kept the Mavericks in the game.
The Mavericks and Orediggers will play a single nine-inning game tomorrow beginning at 1pm.
