PUEBLO, Colo. – Fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa came from behind to take game one 6-2 over Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival CSU-Pueblo on Friday evening at Rawlings Field.
After falling behind 1-0 through six innings, Colorado Mesa scored four runs in the seventh inning highlighted by a two-run single by
Ben Chamberlin. Chamberlin finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Nick Borowski also had a pinch-hit, two-run double in the inning also.
The Mavericks added two runs in the ninth to give themselves some breathing room. Chamberlin had a RBI single followed by a safety squeeze by Borowski that scored speedy
John Ballard from third base.
Ballard finished with two hits while
Alex Fife had two hits as well.
The top pitching team in the RMAC limited the top hitting team in the RMAC to just three hits on the evening.
JR McDermott picked up the win and improved to 6-0 on the season. McDermott allowed two runs on three hits, walked four and struck out seven. The runs were the first earned runs he allowed since Mar. 11 when he allowed one to MSU Denver.
Tyler Ehlers pitched the final two innings to earn his fourth save of the season. Ehlers allowed two walks and struck out three.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow at 1pm at Rawlings Field.
