GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa softball team completed the series sweep of Colorado Mines Sunday (April 3) to extend its winning streak to 21 games. CMU won game one 8-0 and game two 7-6.
McKenzie Surface threw her third complete shutout of the season scattering six hits and striking out four. With the win, Surface improves to 12-3 on the season.
The Mavericks scored two run in the second and added three in the third thanks to a three-run homerun by
Zoe Pakes.
Mesa extended its lead to 7-0 with two runs on four hits in the fourth.
Makayla Kovac drove in the winning run with a double through the left side that scored Alex Dufour who led off the inning with a single. Kovac went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one run scored.
Game two started with both teams scoring one run in the first inning.
The Orediggers plated three more runs in the fourth, including two on a double down the right field line by Kara Jones, to lead 4-1. Â
CMU capitalized on an error in the sixth to score two runs.
Mines scored two runs in the eighth on a sac fly and a single.
The Mavs would battle back scoring three in the bottom of the inning. CMU led off the inning with a pair of singles and a double.
Makayla Kovac drove in the winning run for the second time with a single to third base.
Brooke Hodgson earned the win (6-0) in relief allowing two runs on nine hits in four innings of work.
Alex Dufour led the Mavs in game two batting 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored.
Courtney Robbins was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Colorado Mesa (26-7, 25-1) will play New Mexico Highlands and Colorado Christian in Lakewood, Colo. April 9-10.
