Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa used a four run third inning en route to a 7-4 win over Adams State on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The win gave the Mavericks the series win and improved their overall record to 27-5 and 18-2 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks scored those four runs on three hits highlighted by a RBI double by
Kyle Serrano and a two-run single by
James Young III. Serrano finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs driven in.
Alex Fife went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a RBI, and two runs scored.
Junior
Tyler Day got the start on the mound and pitched well. Day pitched five shutout innings and allowed three hits, struck out eight and walked no one to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Josh Ballard pitched the final inning and two-thirds to pick up his first save of the season. Ballard allowed just one hit and struck out two on the mound.
Colorado Mesa will hit the road for a four-game series with arch-rival CSU-Pueblo at Rawlings Field in Pueblo, Colo.
