GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The No. 20 Colorado Mesa University softball team won its 38
th game of the season and its second straight game in the RMAC Tournament with a 15-5 win over Colorado Mines Friday (April 30).
The Mavericks wasted no time scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first.
CMU tallied seven hits in the inning including a two-run homerun to right field by
Brooke Hodgson.
Baylee Boren drove in two runs with a triple to right center.
Mesa added two more runs in the third on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
Mines rallied in the fourth inning scoring five runs on six hits and one Mesa error.
Brooke Hodgson led off the fourth inning with her second homerun of the game to right field.
Sarah Phillis drove in the second run of the inning with a single up the middle.
Zoe Pakes hit a three-run walk-off homerun to end the game in five innings.
Eight of CMU's nine starters each recorded a hit in the game.
McKenzie Surface (19-6) earned the win allowing one run on eight hits.
Rochelle Talamantes faced five batters allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits before being replaced by Surface who started the game.
Colorado Mesa (38-9) will face MSU Denver Saturday (April 30) at 1:15 pm.
