GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team was eliminated from the RMAC Tournament after suffering back-to-back losses Saturday (April 30).
The Mavericks (38-11) will find out Monday (May 2) if they qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
Top-seeded Colorado Mesa suffered an 8-3 loss to second-seeded MSU Denver.
Sarena Espinoza hit a solo homerun to center field in the top of the first for MSUD.
Makayla Kovac answered with a solo homerun of her own off the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.
Metro plated two runs in the second and added three more in the fifth to lead 6-1.
Brooke Hodgson drove in the final two runs in the fifth for CMU, and MSUD added two more in the seventh.
CMU was out-hit 13-6 in the contest and stranded 11 runners on-base, including twice with the bases loaded.
CSU-Pueblo defeated Colorado Mesa 6-3 in the elimination game.
Nicole Robinson put the Mavs on the board first with an RBI double down the left line in the second inning.
Michaela Burpee hit a double then scored on error by CMU when she was stealing third to tie the game at 1-1.
Kennedy Smith gave the Thunderwolves a 2-1 lead with an RBI double to right center in the fourth.
Mesa took the lead back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple by Kelli Mrofcza.
Pueblo tied the game on a wild pitch and took the lead in the fifth thanks to a three-run homerun by Sarah Ditommaso.
