SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team split a pair of games to close out the regular season Saturday (April 23).
Mesa defeated Black Hills 9-8 but fell to MSU Denver 2-1. CMU, who won the RMAC regular season title, will host the RMAC Tournament April 28-30.
In game one, CMU scored one run in the second and another in the third both on RBI singles.
BHSU took the lead thanks to three runs in the bottom of the third.
Mesa exploded for six runs in the fourth inning. Kelli Mrofcza and
Sarah Phillis recorded back-to-back RBI doubles. Phillis then scored on a single by Alex Dufour, and Brooke
Hodgson capped the scoring with a three-run homer to left field.
The Yellow Jackets responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. BHSU scored two runs on an error, and Erica Everson hit a two-run homer to right center.
Nicole Robinson scored what would be the game-winning run on a single by
Makayla Kovac in sixth inning.
Black Hills would score one more run in the seventh.
McKenzie Surface earned the win in relief allowing five runs, one earned, on five hits.
Metro got on the board first in game two with an RBI double by Kristyn Peters in the fourth inning.
Mesa tied the game with an RBI ground out that scored
Brooke Hodgson in the fourth.
The Roadrunners earned the win with an RBI triple by Hayley Fields in the eighth innings.
McKenzie Surface took the loss for CMU allowing two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
Colorado Mesa (36-9, 35-3) will host the RMAC Tournament April 28-30.
