GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The No. 23 Colorado Mesa University softball team completed the season sweep of Western New Mexico Sunday (April 17) to extend its winning streak to 29 games.

The Mavericks won game one 8-0 and game two 9-1.

The first game started slow with three and a half scoreless innings. Brooke Hodgson put the Mavs on the board with a two-run homer to left field in the fourth inning.

Mesa scored six runs on eight singles in the fifth inning to end the game early.

McKenzie Surface earned her 16^th win and sixth shutout giving up just three hits.

Seven different players recorded a hit for CMU with four tallying two.

In the second game, Colorado Mesa got on the board in the second thanks to a triple by Sarah Phillis that drove in two runs. Phillis scored on a single by Blake Adams on the following at-bat.

Mesa took advantage of several miscues by Western New Mexico to score five runs in the third. The Mavs five runs came on four singles, two errors, a wild pitch and a hit batter.

CMU added another run in the fourth and WNMU broke up the shutout with an unearned run in the fifth.

Rochelle Talamantes earned her 10^th win of the season allowing five hits and one unearned run.

Colorado Mesa (34-7, 33-1) will close the regular season in Spearfish, S.D., with two games against Black Hills State and MSU Denver April 23-24.

CMU has clinched the RMAC Regular Season Title and will host the RMAC Tournament April 28-30.
