Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team split a doubleheader with the Regis Rangers at Suplizio Field on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon.
In game one,
Garrett Ball hit a pinch-hit, walk-off single to left center gave Colorado Mesa a 2-1 win over the Rangers.
Ball hit for
Trevor Elcock in the inning and drove in
Lane LaCrone from second base to secure the win.
Maverick
Matt Allen outdueled Ranger Chris Quackenbush on the mound. Allen allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out three without walking a batter. It took him just 64 pitches to earn his third win of the season.
Quackenbush allowed two runs on six hits, walked five and struck out three but was tagged with the loss.
In game two, the Mavericks comeback fell just short in a 4-3 loss to the Rangers.
Colorado Mesa couldn't secure their first hit until the bottom of the sixth inning when
Joey Samuels delivered an infield single to lead the inning off.
After a pair of Mavericks reached on errors in the bottom of the seventh inning,
Davis Cantwell delivered a two-run single to cut into the Ranger lead.
The Mavericks would scratch across one more run and that's all the closer they would get.
Tanner Herdt was dealt his first loss of the season after allowing three runs on three hits, walked two and struck out five in just four innings of work.
The Mavericks will look to get the series win at 12pm tomorrow at Suplizio Field.
