Mavericks Shutout Rangers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A trio of Colorado Mesa pitchers combined to one-hit the Regis Rangers in a 4-0 win for the fourth-ranked Mavericks on a cool and rainy evening at Suplizio Field.

Freshman took his usual game one start and pitched five innings, allowing just one hit, walked two and struck out eight. He improved to 7-0 and lowered his season ERA to 0.66.

Josh Ballard followed McDermott and pitched one inning and allowed two walks and got a strikeout.

Senior lefty Tyler Ehlers pitched the final three innings and struck out six without allowing a hit or a walk to earn his fifth save of the season.

The shutout is the seventh of the season by the Maverick pitching staff which is second in the country behind Chico State.

Colorado Mesa jumped on the board in the fourth inning when they scored three unearned runs in the inning. JJ Carr had a RBI groundout and Zach McLeod a RBI single in the inning.

Carr was the lone Maverick with multiple hits in the game.

Ben Chamberlin had a RBI single in the seventh inning, scoring Alex Fife from second base to give the Mavericks some cushion.

The Mavericks improved to 32-6 on the year and 22-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Rangers fell to 14-19 and 8-13 in the RMAC.
