LAKEWOOD, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team extended its winning streak to 25 games with a pair of wins Sunday (April 10).
Colorado Mesa defeated New Mexico Highlands 8-0 in the first game and Colorado Christian 15-9 in the second.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mavericks scored in each of the next six.
Makayla Kovac and
Kaila Jacobi each hit solo homeruns in the third and fourth innings for the Mavericks.
Zoe Pakes hit a two-run homer and
Kaila Jacobi followed up with her second homer of the game as part of a three-run inning for the Mavericks.
Mesa out-hit Highlands 11-5 in the game.
McKenzie Surface (14-3) earned the complete game shutout striking out six.
Alex Dufour led off the game against CCU with a triple and scored on a triple by
Makayla Kovac.
The Cougars took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Baylee Boren tied the game in the third with a solo homerun to right center.
With two outs, Mesa scored six runs on six hits in the fourth.
Not to be outdone, CCU plated seven runs on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the inning.
CMU put the game out of reach scoring seven runs across the final three innings.
Six CMU players recorded more than one hit in the contest, with
Baylee Boren collecting a game-high four.
Colorado Mesa (29-7, 28-1) will host Western New Mexico April 16-17.
