PUEBLO, Colo. – An error in the eighth inning proved costly for fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa in a 4-2 loss against CSU-Pueblo on getaway day at Rawlings Field. The Mavericks took three of four games against the Pack and took a commanding lead in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
Colorado Mesa led 2-0 heading to the eighth inning but three hits and a three-run error gave CSU-Pueblo a 4-2 lead heading to the ninth.
After a pair of strikeouts, the Mavericks put the tying run on first base but couldn't move him any further in the ninth and fell 4-2.
Alex Fife finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored to lead the Mavericks.
Tyler Day got the start and pitched five innings of shutout baseball. He allowed five hits and walked a pair while throwing 69 pitches.
Josh Ballard was tagged with the loss.
The Mavericks will return home for a matchup with the Regis Rangers. The four-game series will begin on Friday at 6:05pm at Suplizio Field.
