Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
JR McDermott pitched eight shutout innings and led fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa to a 12-0 win over Adams State on Friday evening at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks improved their record to 26-4 and 16-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
McDermott allowed six hits and struck out eight while earning his fifth win of the season. He also lowered his RMAC best ERA to a miniscule 0.53.
Lefty
Tyler Ehlers preserved the shutout with a scoreless ninth, allowing just two hits.
The Mavericks got the scoring going in the bottom of the third inning when they erupted for five runs on six hits. It was highlighted by
Ben Chamberlin's team-leading seventh home run of the season.
Colorado Mesa added three runs in the sixth and four runs in the eighth inning.
Kyle Serrano finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a run driven in.
Lane LaCrone finished with three hits and
Greg Reynolds had two hits.
Pinch-hitter
Josh Shapiro pinch-hit in the bottom of the eighth inning and laced a single in his first collegiate at-bat.
The Mavericks and Grizzlies will continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader at 1pm at Suplizio Field.
