Mavericks Complete Sweep of Regis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – For the second straight day, the Colorado Mesa softball team swept Regis at Bergman Field. The Mavericks maintain first place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with an 11-1 record in the conference.
 
In the opening game of the day, Makayla Kovac's 2-run home run gave the Mavericks the final lead of the game in a 4-3 win over Regis. Kovac finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored also.
 
Alex Dufour, Baylee Boren, and Kelli Mrofcza each had two hits in the game.
 
McKenzie Surface pitched six and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs on seven hits, walked five and struck out one to earn his fifth win of the season.
 
Brooke Hodgson threw three pitches to retire the final batter of the game to earn the save.
 
In the series finale, Brooke Hodgson's 3-run home run broke it open in the fourth inning for Colorado Mesa in an 8-0 mercy rule shortened game.
 
Hodgson finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs driven in, that included her third home run of the season.
 
Kaila Jacobi had a 2-run single in the third inning to extend the Maverick lead to 3-0.
 
Rochelle Talamantes pitched the complete game shutout and allowed three hits, walked one and struck out one to earn her third win of the season.
 
Colorado Mesa will hit the road for two weeks, starting next weekend for a four-game series at CSU-Pueblo.
