COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team hit eight homeruns in its doubleheader sweep against UCCS on Saturday (March 12). CMU won the first game 14-13 and the second 8-0.

CMU got off to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an a RBI by
Brooke Hodgson followed by a three-run home run by
Zoe Pakes.

UCCS would come back to make it 4-3 in the third.
Â
Baylee Boren scored a run in the third and
Sarah Phillis scored a run in the fourth to put the Mavs up 6-3.
Makayla Kovac hit the second homerun for the Mavericks to give them a 9-3 lead.

The Mountain Lions wouldn't go away that easily though scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 9-9.

Sarah Phillips continued the hot hitting for CMU when she homered to left center field.
Â
After five innings the Mavericks led 14-9, but UCCS made a final push to make it 14-13.

McKenzie Surface struck out six hitters to get the win and improve her record to 6-3.

In the second game,
Makayla Kovac hit a homer to left field in the third.
Brooke Hodgson made it back-to-back homeruns for CMU to extend the Maverick lead to 4-0.

Makayla Kovac continued her hot hitting streak in the fifth with another homerun.

The Mavericks didn't stop there.
Sarah Phillis and
Jessica Boruff both hit homeruns in the sixth to give the Mavs an 8-0 victory.

Rochelle Talamantes struck out three players and allowed six hits to improve her record to 4-2.

Colorado Mesa finishes their four-game series against UCCS tomorrow morning with a doubleheader beginning at 11am.
