Mavericks Sweep Softball Doubleheader

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa swept a doubleheader from Regis on Saturday afternoon at Bergman Field. The Mavericks improved to 10-7 overall and 9-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Rangers fell to 9-12 and 4-6 in the RMAC.

In the opener, Sarah Phillis hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the second that gave the Mavericks their only lead they would need in a 5-2 win for Colorado Mesa. Phillis drove in Kellie Mrofcza and Zoe Pakes on the homer.

Zoe Pakes gave the Mavericks some insurance in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 2-run double to left field, scoring Alex Dufour and Baylee Boren. Pakes finished with two hits.

McKenzie Surface picked up her fourth win of the season after tossing the complete game. She allowed two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four.

In game two, Colorado Mesa's Rochelle Talamantes fired a one-hitter in an 8-0, run rule shortened game to give the Mavericks the sweep. Talamantes improved her record to 2-2 on the year.

The Mavericks scored two runs in the first then exploded for six runs in the second.

Zoe Pakes continued her hot hitting, finishing the game with two more hits including her sixth double of the season.

Alex Dufour also had two hits in the game.
