PItching Leads Mavs to Doubleheader Sweep

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Colorado Mesa completed the doubleheader sweep of the Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday afternoon at All-Star Park. The Mavericks earned a pair of shutouts, winning 11-0 and 6-0 and allowed just six hits combined in the two games.
 
In game one, Matt Allen pitched a complete-game shutout in an 11-0 win for Colorado Mesa. Allen allowed four hits while striking out three to pick up his first win of the season.
 
Colorado Mesa scored in five of the seven innings and pounded out 16 hits in the game.
 
Zach McLeod led the Mavericks at the plate with a pair of doubles and a run scored while PJ Gonzalez finished with two hits including his first home run of the season.
 
Tanner Rempel hit his first home run of his career, a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
JJ Carr also had two hits in the opener.
 
In the nightcap, Tanner Herdt earned his first start of the season and picked up the win, going five innings and allowing one hit, walked one and struck out two to earn the 6-0 win.
 
Reliever Josh Ballard pitched the final two innings, giving up just a single hit.
 
Five players finished with multiple hits in the game led by Greg Reynolds who had four hits. Reynolds was 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
 
James Young III was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, bringing his season total to eight.
 
Kyle Serrano had a pair of hits including his first home run of the season.
 
The two teams will conclude their series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game starting at 12pm.
