GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team defeated Fort Lewis 8-6 Saturday (March 26). The win was the first over Fort Lewis in program history.
The Mavs started off the first half strong against the Skyhawks leading 5-2.
Lydia Furrow had a first half hat trick to aid in the Mavs lead.
The second half was a tight one with the Skyhawks scoring the first three goals of the half to tie the game at 5-5. The Mavs would counter by scoring three goals of their own to boost them to an 8-6 victory.
Shots were close as the Mavs were out shot by the Skyhawks 29-24. 21 of the Skyhawks shots were on goal and 18 of the Mavs shots were on goal.
Turnovers were an issues for the Mavs as they committed 19 compared to the Skyhawks 12.
The Skyhawks were able to win the ground ball battle against the Mavs as they out scooped the Mavs 17-11.
CMU dominated the draw controls against FLC winning 11-5.
There were six Mavs with at least one point against the Skyhawks.
Lydia Furrow led the Mavs in points and goals with four goals and four points on the afternoon.
Jillian Pfeifer played the entire game for the Mavs allowing six goals and making 15 saves. She also earned the win bringing her season record to 5-2.
Colorado Mesa (6-2, 2-1) returns to action Saturday (April 2) as they travel to Denver to take on Regis.
