Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a doubleheader from New Mexico Highlands on Friday afternoon at Brandt Field. The fifth-ranked Mavericks improve to 13-1 in the RMAC and 24-4 overall.
In the day's opening game, New Mexico Highlands took a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning but the Mavericks scored seven runs in the inning and held onto an 8-5 win.
In the Mavericks seventh inning explosion, they scored seven runs on four hits.
John Ballard's bunt single tied the game at four and
Zach McLeod followed with a two-run home run to give the Mavericks the lead for good.
McLeod finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBIs and a stolen base.
Josh Ballard picked up the win in relief after pitching the final two outs of the sixth inning, inducing a 4-6-3 double play.
In the night cap, Ben Chamberlin went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in a 6-2 win for Colorado Mesa. Chamberlin drove in three of the Mavericks six runs.
Chamberlin is 7-for-11 (.636) with a double, two home runs and six runs driven in in the series.
Tanner Herdt earned his fifth win of the season after pitching six innings. Herdt allowed one unearned run on four hits, walked two and struck out eight.
Colorado Mesa will look for the series sweep on Saturday afternoon at 12pm.
