GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Fifth-ranked Colorado Mesa pulled out a 4-1 win over Colorado Mines in a pitcher's dual on Friday evening at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks win moved their winning streak to 11 games and their record to 19-3 overall and 9-0 in the RMAC.
The combo of
JR McDermott and
Tyler Ehlers proved to be the victors of the dual. McDermott went six innings and allowed one unearned run on five hits, walked two and struck out three to collect his third win of the season.
Ehlers pitched the final three innings and allowed one hit while striking out four to earn his third save of the season.
Colorado Mines' Tyler Thomas took the tough luck loss in the game. Thomas went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits, and struck out six.
John Ballard paced the Maverick offense going 3-for-3 with a stolen base. Ballard laced a single to center for his first hit, then layed down a bunt single followed by a three-hop ground ball to shortstop that he beat out.
Alex Fife had just one hit in the game but drove in a pair of runs.
The Mavericks and Orediggers will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1pm at Suplizio Field.
