ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A slow start by the Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse led to a 24-16 lost to No. 3 Lindenwood Thursday (March 17). The loss is the first in RMAC play for CMU this season.
The Mavs struggled early against the Lions as they saw themselves trailing the lions 11-4 in the first half.
The Mavs had a strong second half scoring 12 goals but it would not be enough as the Lions scored 13 of their own to fend off the Mavs.
The Lions caused 22 turnovers by the Mavericks, and LU turned it over 18 times. Â
The Lions dominated the Mavs in shots out shooting the Mavs 41-29.
The Mavs also struggled with draw controls winning only 12 compared to the Lions 23.
Ashley Eickhoff led the Mavs in goals with five on the day.
Eickhoff and
Lydia Furrow lead the Mavs in points with six.
Jillian Pfeifer started the game making six saves and had 15 goals against.
Kady Herzog came in to finish off the second half. Herzog made three saves and allowed nine goals.
The Mavs will be back in action Friday (March 18) as they take on Lindenwood-Belleville in Belleville, Ill.
