GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa scored in five of the eight innings they batted in and took down Div. I Northern Colorado 7-4 on a chilly Tuesday evening at Suplizio Field.
 
Northern Colorado jumped on the scoreboard first after Brett Minnick hit an opposite field, two-run home run in the top of the second inning.
 
The Bears scratched across one more in the top of the third before the Mavericks scored the next five unanswered.
 
Junior catcher Kyle Serrano started the scoring with a solo shot to left field to cut into the Bear lead. Serrano finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
 
Colorado Mesa would add one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh while UNC countered with one in the seventh.
 
Ben Chamberlin continued his torrid start to the season with a solo home run to center field.
 
Second baseman Lane LaCrone finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
 
Sophomore Taylor Prokopis earned the win and was brilliant in relief of starter Tyler Ehlers. Prokopis went four and two-thirds and allowed one run on three hits, walked two and struck out three.
 
Lefty Nick Borowski picked up his third save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
 
The Mavericks and the Bears will conclude their mid-week series tomorrow at 2pm at Suplizio Field.
