GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University baseball continued its dominating play on the mound striking out a combined 27 MSU Denver batters in a doubleheader sweep Saturday (March 12).

CMU won the first game 8-2 and the second game 4-1.

The Mavericks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first after
Lane LaCrone blasted a homerun to left field that scored Ben Chamberlin who led off the game with a double.

LaCrone recorded the third RBI for Mesa with a sacrifice fly in the second to put CMU up 3-0.
Â
Trent Maloney led-off the fourth inning with a homerun to right center. Metro scored its second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
Â
Mesa blew the game open in the fifth with the first four batters all reaching base. CMU scored five runs in the inning on five hits, including four doubles.

Matt Allen earned his second win of the season striking out seven and allowing both runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Tyler Ehlers collected his second save of the season allowing two hits and no runs in 2.1 innings.

CMU had eight batters record a hit in the game, with
John Ballard batting 3-for-3.

Tanner Herdt dominated the mound in game two for his third win of the season. The first 13 outs recorded were by strikeout and he finished with 17 strikeouts. The 17 are the second most in school history behind
JR McDermott who fanned 19 batters yesterday (March 11). Herdt allowed one run on four hits, allowed just one walk and struck out 11 different batters in the game

Mesa wasted no time putting runs on the board with Ben Chamberlin leading off the game with a homerun to left field.

The Mavs added a pair of runs in the fourth on one hit and one error.

Metros lone run came in the fifth inning on a homerun to right field by Nick McCaskey.

PJ Gonzalez drove in the Mavs fourth and final run with a single up the middle in the sixth.

Ben Chamberlin led the Mavs batting 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

CMU (15-3, 7-0) will close out the series with MSUD (6-11, 2-5) Sunday (March 13).Â
